We are proudly affiliated to the JKS with Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

Being affiliated to the JKS ensures that the instruction MK SKA members receive is of a world class standard. This high quality is ensured at a local level as

  • All Black Belts are registered in Japan

  • The grading syllabus is endorsed in Japan

  • There are regular opportunities to train with JKS Japan instructors, many of whom are world-champions

  • There are opportunities to visit and train in Japan as part of the annual JKS England visit.

The JKS (Japan Karate Shotorenmei) is a worldwide karate organisation headed by World Chief Instructor, Masao Kagawa Shihan (Master) 9th Dan. Formally established in 2000, the heritage of the organisation can be traced back to O Sensei Gichin Funakoshi 10th Dan, 1869 - 1957 –the father of Modern Karate and founder of the Shotokan style. The national body of the JKS in England & Wales is here to support members of all ages, abilities and aspirations. They teach traditional Shotokan Karate as taught at the JKS Honbu Dojo, Japan. JKS England & Wales have strong ties with Japan, providing exceptional opportunities for members, from having Dan Grades registered in Japan, through to opportunities for members to enter Teikyo University and the world famous Honbu Dojo Instructors’ Course The JKS believes in inclusivity for the worldwide karate family. Most of the JKS courses, including those with Japanese Hombu Dojo Instructors, are "Open Events" available to members of all ages, grades and organisations.

The JKS is affiliated to the English Karate Federation (EKF) - the national governing body representing Karate groups in England. The EKF is recognised as the official governing body for English Karate by the British Karate Federation, European Karate Federation and the World Karate Federation.
